Firm Facial Moisturiser

I have blogged about making Skin Food Moisturiser before, the liquid sort you can put into a pump bottle. This moisturiser recipe is for a firmer sort that you can pop into a small jar and take dollops out as you need it. It is slightly different, but truth is, my recipes never really stay the same, always changing as my needs change.

Firmer moisturiser can be scooped out with a finger or small spatula.

So the recipe is similar to the Skin Food Moisturiser, only there is less liquid to make it less thin. The ingredients are pretty much the same as before, so you should have the ingredients to hand.

Beeswax and oil of choice….

Ingredients:

  • 1 TBspn Beeswax
  • 1 cup Avocado Oil (or any other of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup Rose Water (available international food section of supermarket)
  • 6 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 6 drops Geranium Essential Oil
  • Optional: 5 drops 5 Flower Remedy
Essential Oils, 5 Flower Remedy and Rose Water

Method:

Shave enough beeswax off your block, or grate it. Place beeswax into a small saucepan and melt it. Turn off the heat and slowly add the edible oil of choice, while stirring. Pour this mix into your high speed blender and while it is blending, add your rose water and essential oils. The mixture will slowly turn from a yellowish consistency to a white creamy consistency. This is ready to bottle now and label with a date.

The mixture looks a little yellow as you start to blend it….
Moisturiser will begin to look white and creamy.

Let’s just talk ingredients; the oil you use can be any edible oil. I have tried cold pressed sesame oil, but I also smelt like a good salad dressing underneath the essential oil blend. Same with olive oil. Coconut oil works well, but isn’t heat stable, which means your moisturiser becomes really runny in hot weather, and in cold weather, you need something just short of an ice pick to get to it! I have tried them all, and avo oil is my favourite at the moment.

Remaining ingredients

Now let’s talk about the rest of the ingredients: choose essential oils that speak to you…could be patchouli or ylang ylang. I LOVE patchouli, but at the point of making my moisturiser I discovered that my patchouli is so thick that it takes an age and a half to get a drop out and so I lost patience and just used lavender and geranium. Make sure you aren’t allergic to any of the oil (put a drop of oil in a tspn of carrier oil and try it out on the inner arm to see if you can handle it). It’s an easy and quick test to try the day before making your moisturiser. 5 Flower Remedy is optional, and I only use it as I have it. It is what one uses to make up Rescue Remedy and is just an extra skin boost.

Moisturiser not tested on animals, containing no harmful ingredients and not requiring any excess plastic packaging. It’s a win all round!

Like all recipes, sometimes one doesn’t have all the ingredients, so you can get creative. Create something unique, truly yours. Gift a friend or family member some non-toxic skin food made by you. Now my hubby requests some moisturiser as he has grown to really love his “Mike’s Magic Moisturiser”.

Next challenge; to teach him how to make his own…..
